Accounts Payable Analyst

The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized and proactive individual to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn and grow while contributing to a collaborative and engaged team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices and other financial transactions.

*This is one-year parental leave contract with a start date of approximately November 25.*

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Finance, you will provide expertise and support in coordinating day-to-day activities including but not limited to:

Invoice Processing:

Receive, review, and process vendor invoices for payment, including G/L coding
Verify accuracy of invoices, purchase orders, and other supporting documentation
Resolve discrepancies and issues with vendors in a timely manner
Monitor the purchase order list for all departments

Payment Processing:

Prepare and process biweekly electronic payments, including cheques and wire transfers
Maintain accurate records of payment transactions

Vendor Accounts:

Responsible for all internal and external inquiries related to payables
Communicate effectively with vendors to address inquiries and resolve payment-related issues
Vendor account maintenance and statement reconciliation

Banking:

Participation in the daily deposit function
Cash flow support
Manage and reconcile petty cash

Month End Close:

Assist in month-end closing activities related to accounts payable
Provide necessary documentation and reports for financial reporting
Expense review and analysis

Education / Experience required

Post-secondary degree with experience in Business, Accounting and/or Finance
3-7 years experience; exposure to Accounting function
Discretion in handling of sensitive and confidential information

Knowledge & Skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Outlook; experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central systems a plus
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as HST and ITC requirements
Experience transitioning to paperless workflow an asset
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
English/French bilingual an asset
