What You’ll Do:
The Payroll and benefits Administrator will be responsible for the overall process of the payroll and benefits administration for Northland Power Canadian Corporate Head Office, US and facilities operations. This position reports directly to the Payroll Manager.
This role will be based in Toronto and require 20hrs/week (approximately 4hrs per day), however incumbent will need to be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am-5pm. Northland has a hybrid work model that will be discussed with the hiring manager in the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
- 20hrs/week (approximately 4hrs per day). Daily hours may vary depending on workload, however incumbent will need to be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 9-5pm.
- Responsible for preparing and processing the Canadian and US bi-weekly payroll for unionized and non-unionized hourly employees and for salaried employees in a timely and accurate manner.
- Responsible for the standard payroll processing activities including but not limited to new hire set-ups, garnishments, terminations, pay calculations, time and attendance, payroll payment file creation, ROE’s, T4s, RL1’s, W-2 tax filings, etc. with a focus on Canadian and United States payroll practices and legislation.
- Responsible for processing all employee benefit changes on third party portals to enroll, update and terminate employees benefit coverages.
- Responsible for monthly/yearly remittances and reconciliations for provincial and federal taxes, workers compensation, provincial health taxes and related payroll vendor payments.
- Ensures all payroll changes and processes are completed according to Collective Agreement(s) and within the guidelines of legislative requirements.
- Produces weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports as needed.
- Assists in completing account reconciliations, analysis, financial and payroll audit support and other ad hoc payroll-related requests.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation is required along with membership with the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA).
- Working knowledge of the Workday Payroll, Benefits and Time & Attendance modules
- Two to three years full cycle payroll and related financial experience required.
- Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation. US working knowledge of US payroll legislation is an asset.
- Workday experience considered an asset.
- Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organization skills and highly detail-oriented, with a focus on quality and accuracy.
