TTC is transforming its Finance function from a traditional controllership role to one in which Finance is a strategic business partner that provides value added, best and leading financial planning, management and reporting services across the organization.
Join the Finance team at this exciting time - we have a Senior Accounting Analyst opportunity available.
As the Senior Accounting Analyst, you will use your financial acumen and knowledge of financial accounting policies and controls and act as a lead for financial reporting on capital projects. This position plays an essential role in reviewing and approving project accounting & reporting, monitoring and analyzing financial transactions, and performing period-end and year-end financial reporting process.
In addition, you will ensure capital project costs are complete and appropriately charged to the relevant projects and accounts, and maintain the TTC’s record of subsidized and non-subsidized capital assets, including its capital asset creation, depreciation and disposal. This involves processing indirect & overhead cost allocations to applicable capital projects across the organization.
You will also support the year-end process by performing various year-end requirements including reviewing and ensuring completeness of accruals, account reconciliations, analysis for year-end true-up, and coordination of audit requirements.
You will ensure that transactions related to capital projects and budgets comply with TTC policies, procedures, current account standards, and guidance issued by the Public Sector Accounting Board such as Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) standard (PS3280).
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
- Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, along with extensive related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and proficiency with other Microsoft software (e.g. Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Knowledge of current accounting and auditing principles and practices as described in the CPA Canada Handbook, the with Public Sector Accounting Standards, Canadian Auditing Standards and Other official pronouncements (e.g. International Financial Reporting Standards or International Public Sector Accounting Standards) would be an asset
- Demonstrated work experience with SAP would be preferred
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and mathematical skills
- Experience in analyzing financial reports, preparing and reviewing Journal entries and reconciliations
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and comfortable working in an environment of change and process improvements
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work accurately with strong attention to detail
- Must possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to handle inquiries efficiently and effectively and resolve issues with other departments
- Experience and comfortable working with external auditors
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
