How will you make an impact in this role?
This position is accountable for leading the compensation and benefits agenda for Canada and the successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:
- Ownership of all benefit programs and related policies incorporating design, vendor management and ongoing assessment of effectiveness
Leadership of the compensation agenda including benchmarking, pay ranges and advice to business leaders and other stakeholders to support the colleague agenda
Partnering with the International Colleague Strategic Partner team on strategies and initiatives that drive colleague engagement
Ensuring local programs are compliant with local regulations and internal American Express standards; Specifically providing oversight of and ensuring compliance with C&B requirements relating to our banking license in Canada
Leading the design and delivery of a comprehensive benefit program to meet business objectives, that is competitive, ensuring vendor adherence to service operating principals and metrics
Partnering with Servicing and Payroll teams on delivery and implementation of benefit programs and changes
Monitoring the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommending changes that are cost-effective and consistent with global standards.
Leadership of our pay equity analysis and reporting and other strategic C&B projects
Providing in-country support to global C&B processes including the annual compensation review and bonus cycle, compliance of C&B programs and applicable approvals
Leadership of initiatives that support our Healthy Living and Smart Saving strategies
Representing C&B in local senior leader forums and Board meetings
Providing market support for major global C&B change initiatives and facilitating effective local communication of the global C&B agenda
Assessing and mitigating against risks in the C&B agenda and remediating any identified areas of risk
Leading the Retirement Plan review committee to ensure regular review of plan investment performance, review of fund assets and ensure compliance with respect to legislative reporting as required. This role would also be a member of the retirement committee
Facilitating the engagement of specialist teams including Colleague Servicing, Healthy Living Strategy and Global Compensation in support of the Canada C&B agenda
Minimum Qualifications
To be successful in this role we seek the following essential core skills and proven ability
- Undergraduate degree in Business/Human Resources or other related field or a combination of proven 5-7 years C&B management experience with strong demonstration of Canadian C&B practices, tax structures and working experience in both federal and provincial legislation (i.e. Employment Standards, Pay Equity, Pay Transparency)
Exceptional collaboration and relationship skills
Ability to lead people, including leadership of non-direct report roles
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders
Ability to communicate to and influence senior leaders
Strong analytical and problem-solving approach
An ability to think creatively and innovate
Advanced project management experience
