Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries is a not-for-profit organization that has been caring for families in the GTA since 1826. We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to join our team at our head office located on 65 Overlea Blvd in East York for a six (6) month contract
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Match, code, and enter a high volume of invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure proper backup and authorization are received for the payment of invoices.
- Perform weekly check runs, process vendor cheques, EFT, and wire payments within well-defined procedures and policies.
- Ensure invoices and financial records are filed and stored in an organized manner.
- Assign account numbers to expense reports and invoices using established procedures and policies, applying independent judgement as needed.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding invoices, reconcile statements, and resolve outstanding balances on vendor accounts.
- Negotiate interest charges or costs assessed in error by suppliers.
- Post and process adjusting journal entries for month-end and year-end closing.
- Perform necessary year-end tasks related to the Accounts Payable subsystem.
- Assist with budgeting, year-end variance checking, and ensuring that projects and expenditures align with the current budget. Investigate and report any deviations.
- Interact with other departments and locations to resolve AP-related issues and discrepancies.
- Communicate with suppliers and vendors regarding the status of accounts, resolving any issues or disputes that may arise.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing Department and other teams to ensure the timely and accurate payment of invoices.
- Monitor and identify any unusual increases in certain expenses, flagging potential issues for investigation.
- Ensure that projects and expenditures are accurately reflected in the current budget and identify any discrepancies.
- Assist colleagues and other departments when needed to meet departmental deadlines and maintain workflow.
- Provide additional support for accounting tasks, such as variance checking and budget assistance, when required.

- Additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the Manager, Accounting
Hours/Days of Work:
- 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday
- Additional hours as required for business needs
Qualifications:
- At least a one (1) year college certificate/diploma or higher in business and/or other related disciplines
- At least two (2) years of previous experience as an Accounting Clerk or a similar role
- Strong interpersonal skills to allow for the ability to build effective relationships within own team and with key stakeholders
- Ability to make decisions on typical day-to-day issues
- Excellent priority setting, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of compliance regulations for organizations working within the not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of Financial and ERP systems, Microsoft Dynamics Navision experience would be an asset
- Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to multi-task in a busy environment and work with minimal supervision
