SAE Inc. is seeking a General Accountant to join their dynamic Finance team in Barrie. This role offers a diverse range of challenges, providing opportunities to solve problems and improve processes. Enjoy a hybrid work model after probation, offering flexibility for both in-office and remote work.
What you'll be doing:
In this role as General Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial operations and driving process improvements in both general and manufacturing accounting. If you have a strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and are eager to learn about manufacturing and operations accounting, this role could be a perfect fit for you.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Collaborate with the Controller to maintain and improve finance controls, policies, and procedures
- Identify and implement cost-effective process improvements
- Manage (including data entry) full cycle accounting activities, including but not limited to AP, AR, inventory, GL, and fixed assets, in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Perform bank reconciliations and manage month-end balance sheet schedules (e.g., prepaids, accruals)
- Serve as a key point of contact for external stakeholder reporting
Manufacturing Accounting
- Act as a bridge between Operations and Accounting, focusing on cost rates, manufacturing standards, and resolving manufacturing variances using standard costing
- Collaborate with production and sales to control inventory and troubleshoot variances
- Help develop labor and overhead rates
- Investigate material, labor, and overhead variances in the general ledger
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Finance/Accounting from an accredited institution
- CPA or equivalent designation is nice to have but not mandatory.
Experience And Skills
- 2-3 years of experience in a similar accounting role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel must be above average proficiency
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks is a plus)
- Familiarity with Canadian and US sales tax and foreign exchange transactions
