How will you make an impact in this role?
The primary responsibilities of the Accounting and Payroll Clerk position may include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for Accounting and Support functions for the Canadian Travel Team who service our premium card members. In this role, you will be directly supporting the TICO and OPC Trust Accounting process in performing analysis and reconciliations, supporting controls and performing additional accounting and back-office related duties as required. In addition, you may support the payroll and timekeeping process by leading elements and functions of time management including leave related absences including, but not limited to, review, research, reconciliation and updates.
- Manage and maintain all elements for the TICO and OPC mandated regulatory Trust Accounts
Responsible to ensure all reconciliation is completed on transactions in the Trust Account within the required time frame
Manage and maintain operating bank accounts and suspense accounts
Manage and maintain all general ledger related accounting functions
Proactively identify and lead process enhancement initiatives to create efficiencies and eliminate process gaps
Provide back up support in the back office on related processes
Partner and coordinate with colleagues to ensure all leave of absences are managed, processed and communicated in a timely and accurate manner, and in compliance with company policies in a fast paced, high volume environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Must understand relationship care and demonstrate "Blue Box" values
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present findings to leadership in a clear and concise manner
Have a strong working knowledge of American Express policies and procedures
Must have working knowledge of the travel booking industry
Must have working knowledge of the Sabre GDS booking system/Central Command accounting system
Knowledge of Trust Accounting reconciliation
Must be a team player who is adaptable and has the ability to work independently
Proficient in Microsoft Word
Have exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building skills with the ability to analyze and assess the needs of the business
A keen self-starter who is open to change
Act as a change agent with the ability to influence
Preferred Qualifications
- Must have strong/advanced Excel skills including proficiency with using MACROS, V-look ups, formulas, pivot tables and the ability to determine the best way to create files using available data
Ability to complete accounting reconciliations for vendor billings and other accounting areas using general ledger processes
Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to maintain the Trust Accounts
Must have strong communication skills and be able to work with other teams within Amex (Eg: GOA teams, finance/controllership teams/payroll teams)
Must be able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion when dealing with leave-related absences
Strong analytical skills with an ability to identify innovative solutions
Ability to breakdown complex issues and resolve in a timely manner
Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve efficiency, productivity and processes and identify trends or themes that impact the business
Ability to connect the role’s agenda to enterprise priorities and balance the needs of our customers, partners, colleagues and shareholders
