Job Summary:
The Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial records and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for a public company. This role involves overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and assisting in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and TSX regulations. The Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant will collaborate closely with the finance team to support audits, quarterly and annual filings, and other compliance-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Maintain and manage the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded, classified, and reconciled.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring they comply with GAAP.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports and ensure compliance with TSX reporting requirements.
- Audit Support: Work closely with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and recommendations for cost control.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing, payments, and collections.
- Reconciliations: Perform regular bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Financial Analysis: Provide financial analysis and insights to support management decision-making and strategic planning.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve financial reporting efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably within a public company.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, TSX reporting requirements, and COSO compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and regulatory filings.
Work Environment: This position typically operates in an office environment. Occasional overtime may be required during peak reporting periods.
Reporting Structure: The Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
