MISSION
The Director, Finance and Administration is a key member of the leadership team that will empower and supervise the team to oversee finance projects and administrative processes. The successful candidate will direct the effective management, control and reporting of the agency's fiscal resources and be responsible for the oversight of bank accounts, credit cards, and accounts payable. This includes the monthly preparation of monthly financial statements, semi-annual reports to the Ministry funders, and preparation and submission of the annual budget. The candidate will also report on a monthly basis to the Finance and Audit Committee.
The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a compassionate and hands-on leader to fulfill the role of the Director, Finance and Administration.
PRIORITIES
- Establishes and oversees financial control and reporting mechanisms
- Provide leadership in maintaining high-functioning staff teams and oversee all administrative functions pertaining to staff and the programs
- Manages the administration of all financial records, accounting processes and monthly, accumulative and annual financial reports and statements
- Conducts expenditure variance analysis and prepares budget forecasts
- Represents the agency in contact with external auditors and representatives of banking institutions and related government agencies
- Participates in ongoing communication and negotiation with the Agency's various funding bodies
- Authorizes agency expenditures within established limits
- Provides expert advice and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors regarding financial matters and decisions.
- Presents budget proposals to the Board of Directors for review and approval. Provides the lead staff resource to committees of the Board of Directors, as required
- Ensures all applications for rebates and donations are submitted on time and oversees the renewal of insurance coverage
- Provide advocacy and structural leverage for the staff team around issues of equity and social justice. Support and sustain values of decolonization and racial justice as central to the work, and seek interventions that advance the leadership of those most impacted by harmful systems

Requirements
TALENTS & EXPERTISE
- Minimum three (3) years experience working in a not-for-profit government-funded organization in a management or executive leadership role
- CPA designation is required
- Experience with labour and employee relations or relevant working experience in a unionized environment
- Knowledge of government and funder agency structures/ procedures. Experience with funding applications/ compliance requirements
- Expert knowledge of financial planning, financial management and accounting/ financial reporting systems and procedures to manage the agency's fiscal and business affairs
- Excellent planning and administration skills to effectively manage diverse and specialized support services for the agency
- Expert knowledge of accounting software with experience in SAGE and Ceridian or ADP being an asset. Ability to provide sage advice to directors and managers in the preparation and monitoring of operational budgets
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to participate in the development of strategic and operational plans and policy recommendations
- Ability to represent the agency with external contacts and to provide advisory services to the Executive Director, Board of Directors and committees of the Board
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusive and diverse agency
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours
- Fluency in the French language is an asset
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations (2 doses) is required.
