Our well-established nonprofit client is seeking a Financial Analyst to join their Shared Services department. This role is critical in supporting financial reporting and analysis, ensuring the accuracy of data across diverse funding streams such as government and private foundations. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting and Budgeting, the Financial Analyst will prepare detailed financial reports, analyze budget variances, and assist in consolidating financial information from multiple funding sources. This role also involves working with data from various systems to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency. This is a 1-year contract opportunity on a primarily remote basis (1 day a week onsite).
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for multiple funding streams, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and accounting standards.
- Consolidate financial data across projects and funding sources into comprehensive reports.
- Create and enter revenue invoices and allocate program costs.
- Maintain schedules for administrative cost recovery and deferred revenue compliance.
- Investigate and analyze variances between actuals and budgets, providing actionable insights.
- Prepare variance reports for programs/departments, identifying trends impacting budget performance.
- Perform monthly staff cost variance reviews, focusing on hours and compensation rates.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and ongoing forecasting.
- Prepare budget-to-actual reports and provide spending insights in collaboration with budget managers.
- Ensure compliance with legal, funder, and accounting standards in all financial reporting.
- Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to queries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related fields.
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset.
- At least 3 years of experience in financial analysis, reporting, or budgeting, preferably in the nonprofit or healthcare sector.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in variance analysis.
- Proficiency in accounting software; experience with Oracle NetSuite and Yardi is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis.
- Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
