We are looking for a full-time on-site role for a Director of Finance who thrives with medium-sized companies. The ideal candidate plays a pivotal role in managing and guiding the financial aspects of our client’s consumer packaged goods company.
This role requires experience working with mid-sized companies, providing a broad understanding of various financial environments. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of financial reporting, taxation of private corporations, and financial planning and analysis. Working closely with the Executive Team, the Director of Finance will be instrumental in shaping the company’s financial strategy, optimizing performance, and supporting sustainable growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
- Over 7 years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or managerial roles in finance.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex financial data.
- Deep understanding of financial statements and their components.
- Ability to create, manipulate, and analyze financial data in Excel and prep financial documents for the Executive Team.
- Previous experience with medium-sized firms.
- Previous experience filing corporate tax returns in Canada.
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing finance and/or accounting teams.
- Proficiency in Caseware, TaxPrep, and Xero is an asset
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports for multiple entities on a monthly basis. Conduct thorough financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Tax filings: Responsible for HST filings, Corporate tax filings, Excise tax filings, and all other tax filings for multiple entities.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with department heads. Provide regular forecasting reports to assist the Executive Team in making informed decisions.
- Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies. Establish and maintain robust internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and to protect company assets.
- Cash Management: Monitor cash flow and manage working capital to optimize cash utilization and maintain financial stability.
- Financial Planning and Strategy: Work with the Executive team to develop financial strategies aligned with the company's long-term goals. Participate in strategic planning discussions and provide financial insights to support business decisions.
- Audit and Tax Support: Coordinate external audits and work closely with internal auditors to provide necessary documentation. Collaborate with tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax laws and optimize tax efficiency. Prepare and file Canadian corporate tax returns.
- Financial Systems and Processes: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Ad-hoc Projects: Undertake special projects and initiatives as assigned by the executive team to address specific financial challenges or explore growth opportunities.
