Reporting to the VP Finance, the Finance Manager is responsible for assisting with leading the team consisting of two Senior Accountants, an Intermediate Accountant, and Part-time Accounting Clerk and preparing all internal and external financial reporting for The Fertility Partners Inc. (the “Company”). This role also involves overseeing clinic finance teams across Canada and the US, as well as working to develop and improve management and board of directors reporting.
This is a very hands-on role and ideal for someone seeking to continuously improve financial processes and make a difference in a growth and acquisition-oriented company.
In addition, this role will be working with the staff at the acquired businesses (“Partners”) to support the effective completion of accounting, reporting and analysis. The Finance Manager role also supports various internal departments within The Company on financial review, analytics, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Prepare all external financial reporting documents while providing technical research, when needed, to support the choice of accounting policy and financial reporting approach.
- Propose accounting treatment for complex transactions, especially as they relate to acquisitions and business combinations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely consolidation of the Company’s financial results including quarterly management and board performance reports (and dashboards), financial statements, notes, MD&A, Audit Committee memo.
- Manages the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial reporting close process and review month end reconciliations within established timelines.
- Assist with the practical implementation of financial reporting structures at the Partner clinics and assist with troubleshooting accounting issues at the clinic level.
- Preparing and analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts, continuity schedules, variance analysis on an ad-hoc basis as required by senior management.
- Work with outside valuators to prepare periodic valuations of the Company.
- Provide support for stakeholder communications, including monthly (or quarterly) investor materials.
- Support in the review and creation of custom financial reporting models and templates to meet investor requirements.
- Liaise and oversee financial reporting of consolidated Partners providing guidance and strengthening, where needed, Partner financial reporting to the standards of the Company.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Assisting with the annual budgeting process within established timelines.
- Assist the FP&A team in a variety of financial analysis scenarios on an ad hoc basis.
- Support the FP&A team’s analysis with detailed financial data from the accounting system and provide insight on actual financial results and comparatives against budget.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Lead the external financial statement audit process, prepare financial statements and working papers.
- Assist with setting up the most efficient tax structure for the corporate entities and managing periodic tax payments.
- Identify and implement financial reporting and compliance requirements, both at head office and at clinic sites.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of controls at the clinic level and follow up with key stakeholders to ensure that internal controls are operating effectively.
- Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with regulatory compliance, ensuring that business process and internal control documentation are up to date.
- Prepare quarterly bank Compliance Certificates.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business.
- Professional Accounting Designation required.
- 5+ years of experience in financial reporting and ideally audit experience with a reputable accounting firm.
- Previous experience in performing consolidations.
- Strong technical knowledge of ASPE, with knowledge of US GAAP an asset.
- Ability to multi-task with multiple deadlines and prioritize crucial deliverables.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent people skills. A team player. A proven ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization yet work at a consistently high level independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with particular attention to detail.
- Excellent MS Office Skills (eg Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Previous experience / knowledge with various accounting and ERP systems.
