Overview
Are you someone with strong leadership capabilities? Do you enjoy building relationships and working collaboratively in a team environment with both internal, external and global stakeholders? We are hiring a General Accountant in Toronto who will be responsible for the general accounting of the assigned MR Canada entities. This includes AP, expense allocation process between the companies as well as quality assurance, controls, reporting and analytics for internal management steering.
Your job
Primary Responsibilities:
- Take a key role in month/quarter/year end closing processes, ensuring all applicable P&L and BS accounts and records are accurate and the audit file is supported.
- Perform the quarterly expense allocation cycles and Functional Area process ensuring accuracy.
- Understand cost drivers and a complex system of cost centres ensuring that the drivers are accurate and reviewed on a regular basis.
- Produce internal management information and commentary on expense driver development as changes occur, this includes the regular maintenance of internal Power BI dashboards.
- Prepare and provide intercompany billing to affiliates and reconcile intercompany balances and supporting closing balance sheet positions via confirmation statements.
- Prepare and coordinate the collection, review, quality assurance and reporting of quarterly accruals liaising with cost centre managers as appropriate.
- Own the fixed asset schedules, including calculation of depreciation and ensuring bookings of purchases/disposals are recorded correctly.
- Play an important role in the creation and maintenance of the annual expense plan, including quality assurance and commentary to cost centre managers/senior management.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist in any core systems changes to ensure that accounting policies and internal controls are adhered to, including managing roll outs of new modules of the accounting system (Fixed assets)
- Establish, maintain and update accounting procedures to improve efficiency, create internal control and cost control procedures including departmental KPI’s.
- Support the cash function to balance business cash requirements and the opportunity cost of holding cash as opposed to investing
- Assist in the audit process including preparing and providing supporting documentation.
- Support the team as required and providing guidance/training to more junior members of the team
Your profile
Required Education
- University or College - with a specialization in accounting
- Possessing of the CPA designation or pursing CPA
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications
- 5 years accounting experience
Specialized Knowledge And Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience of complex cost center structures & allocations
- Strong analytical skills, with the curiosity to answer the “why”?
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation
- Ability to work under pressure of meeting multiple deadlines
- Accuracy & attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing business requirements
- Working knowledge of Power BI preferred
