Accounting Technician

Job Overview:
We are a growing, mid-sized public accounting firm located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, seeking an Accounting Technician to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong accounting and tax preparation skills to support our clients and assist with financial statement preparation under Notice to Reader (NTR) guidelines, tax filings, and general bookkeeping tasks. Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Preparation & Filing:
- Prepare personal and corporate tax returns (T1, T2, HST/GST returns) accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with tax filings, including ensuring compliance with Canadian tax laws and regulations.
- Maintain tax records and track filing deadlines for clients.
- Financial Statement Preparation (NTR):
- Prepare Notice to Reader (NTR) financial statements for clients, ensuring proper formatting and accuracy.
- Gather necessary financial data from clients and prepare the working papers for NTR engagements.
- Assist with the preparation of supporting schedules for the financial statements.
- Bookkeeping & General Accounting:
- Perform day-to-day accounting functions such as managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial records on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Maintain general ledgers and assist in preparing internal financial reports.
- Client Interaction & Communication:
- Communicate with clients to gather information for tax filings and financial statements.
- Provide ongoing support to clients regarding tax questions, filing status, and general accounting inquiries.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping tasks and software issues when needed.
- Software Utilization:
- Use accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, and TaxCycle (or other similar tax software) for data entry, generating reports, and preparing tax filings.
- Assist with generating financial reports and preparing tax-related documents.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Ensure that all records and client files are organized, complete, and compliant with relevant tax laws and firm policies.
- Maintain client confidentiality and uphold the firm's high standards of ethics and integrity.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a recognized institution.
- Additional certifications or training in accounting or bookkeeping are an asset, but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or tax preparation.
- Experience preparing Notice to Reader (NTR) financial statements and personal/corporate tax returns is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Canadian tax laws and accounting standards is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, and TaxCycle (or similar tax preparation software).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
