Canlan is currently looking for a Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to work for our Burnaby Central Office.
Rate of pay: $140,000 - $150,000 per year.
Job Summary
The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is a pivotal strategic leader responsible for steering the organization’s financial planning, analysis, and decision-making processes. This role emphasizes analyzing key data and variances to uncover growth opportunities, enhance operational efficiencies, and address potential budget risks proactively.
In addition, the Director acts as a liaison with legal counsel and insurance providers, facilitating timely insurance policy renewals and implementing measures to mitigate financial and operational risks. This position plays a critical role in delivering actionable insights to senior leadership, driving organizational growth, and ensuring the company’s financial stability.
Accountabilities
The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis is accountable for:
- Drive planning, analysis, and decision support to identify and prioritize growth opportunities.
- Lead efforts to improve cost monitoring, budgeting, and forecasting, and collaborate with operational teams to implement improvements.
- Act as a liaison with legal counsel and insurance providers to manage legal, insurance, and contract matters, and assist with public company filings and compliance tasks.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support long-term growth and operational excellence.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and financial accountability across the organization.
- Build and maintain a high-performance team, fostering leadership development and a results-oriented mindset.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align financial and operational strategies with customer needs and support customer-focused initiatives.
- Ensure financial and operational processes adhere to regulatory standards and safety guidelines, and foster a culture of safety awareness.
- Develop robust financial plans and forecasts, lead budget preparation, and manage the company's insurance program.
- Monitor market trends and competitive landscapes, conduct market analyses, and share insights with senior leadership to align strategies with emerging opportunities and threats.
Qualifications And Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- MBA or CPA designation.
Abilities, Attributes And Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial planning, analysis, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in identifying and executing growth opportunities and operational efficiencies.
- Experience in risk management and liaising with legal and insurance teams.
- Strong business acumen.
- Able to quickly overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and business case development.
- Solid understanding of risk management frameworks and legal processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., ERP systems, BI tools). Strong project management skills. Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.
- Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to customer satisfaction. Must have a value-added mindset.
