Marmon Rail Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist with a service-minded work ethic to support our payroll team. This individual will be responsible for a wide range of payroll tasks, provide service support to our Rail group, and participate in related projects. Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager at the corporate office, this is a highly visible and essential role within the organization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process full cycle payroll (weekly and semi-monthly), for employees across multiple provinces, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian Payroll regulations.
- Coordinate with repair shops, onsite locations, mobile units, and corporate departments to ensure completion of new hire and termination procedures and documentation.
- Stay current with federal and provincial payroll legislation and regulations
- Prepare and process weekly, monthly, accruals and GL’s.
- Analyze and recommend changes to payroll process/procedure which improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Manage special projects and support other process automation initiatives at the direction of the Payroll Manager.
- Provide information and answer employee questions about payroll-related matters and conduct lunch and learn weekly sessions.
- Ensure payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly.
- Respond to and resolve any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting.
- Prepare, review, and file statutory reports (e.g., T4/T4A, ROE, and EI remittances) in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines.
- This is a fully remote position with occasional 10% travel required
- Other related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring to the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or related field.
- 2+ years of Canadian payroll experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now and Workday, preferably in a multi-locations and union environment.
- Payroll Compliance and Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
- High level of accounting understanding of G.L.’s and debit and credits.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including intermediate-to-high level of Microsoft Excel expertise
- Passion for payroll, collaboration, learning, process improvements, and technology
- Enthusiasm for helping others.
- A “roll up your sleeves” attitude and willingness to do the day-to-day work.
