The Assistant Controller will analyze complex financial records and reports and regulate and authenticate financial transactions. The incumbent will also ensure the integrity of accounting information, as well as establish and maintain quality control over financial transactions and various reporting.
Main responsibilities:
· Produce error-free consolidated accounting reports under GAAP and/or IFRS
· Overview accounts receivable and accounts payable; approve domestic and foreign payments
· Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
· Manage financial reporting and ensure compliance for various development grants
· Verify and reconcile transactions
· Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports
· prepare reports required by regulatory agencies, banks, investors, and other external parties.
· Support and coordinate internal and external audits
· Improve business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
· Forecast expenses for budgeting and cash flow projections
· Support filing of tax returns for US and Canada
· Assist in vendor management and execution against existing and new contracts
Qualifications:
· 5 to 8 years progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in the biotechnology or life sciences industry
· Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
· Strong analytical and accounting skills
· Experience with creating consolidated financial statements and intercompany accounting
· Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
· Excellent accounting and online banking software user and administration skills, including QuickBooks
· Tax, payroll and reporting experience
· Experience with GAAP and/or IFRS
· Experience with foreign currency transactions
· Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
· Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
· Accuracy and attention to details
· The incumbent will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product
· Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance or equivalent
· Experience with Venture Capital finance is a plus
· Publicly traded company experience is a plus
