About this opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources operations, the Payroll Manager is responsible for end -to-end payroll processing, and benefit administration for all employees. The role manages a diverse team comprised of payroll and benefits specialists, and is also responsible for continued improvement of processes, effective integration of activities with HR, Finance and other stakeholders, and for ensuring a high level of service to employees and managers.
Take an inside look at what you’ll do each day
- Ensure timely, efficient and accurate execution of all payroll processes (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, annual etc.) ensuring identified omissions and discrepancies are quickly addressed and resolved.
- Ensure timely, efficient and accurate enrollment, ongoing administration, changes, termination and accounting for all benefit programs (health, retirement plans etc.).
- Lead, develop and manage the Payroll and Benefits team in achieving business objectives and meeting internal service delivery commitments.
- Oversee workload of department optimizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational and reporting requirements.
- Oversee all payroll and benefit accounting functions with respect to payroll disbursements, journal entries, allocation reports, G/L mapping and reconciliation.
- Develop and operate relationships with relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to Finance, 3rd party providers, business leaders, HR teams.
- Identify and implement efficient payroll processes and best practices to ensure 100% accuracy of all payroll in addition to developing audits to streamline payroll and benefits administration.
- Create, compile and summarize payroll information for internal and external auditors and management reports on a required basis.
- Ensure a high and consistent level of service for employees and managers, set and meet internal Service Level Agreements for response time and activities.
What you will need to be successful
- 5+ years solid experience in payroll processing and time keeping software
- 3 – 5 years supervisory experience
- Experience identifying and implementing improvements to existing payroll processes; development of audits and controls
- Canadian Payroll Association (National Payroll Institute) Payroll Management Certificate, an asset
- Subject matter expert in payroll and benefits processing, including strong understanding of programs features and operating characteristics – exposure to payroll for a large, multi-location employer is essential
- Demonstrated commitment to meeting deadlines and operational effectiveness, strong attention to detail, problem solving skills,
- Familiar with Compensation and Human Resources administration
- Experience with Ultipro software an asset
- Experience with multi-provincial payrolls
- Strong Excel skills
- Strong leadership skills including employee development and coaching skills
