Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices, with expertise in corporate finance. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing insightful analysis to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
o Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
o Generate financial reports reflecting costs for all departments and processes within the production operations.
o Provide financial insights to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
o Conduct detailed financial data analysis to assess the company’s overall financial health.
o Work closely with the sales team to forecast future sales and ensure that end goals are met.
2. General Accounting Functions
o Manage petty cash and company cheques while ensuring accurate records are maintained.
o Handle accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger activities and Oversee accounts payable, responsible.
o Do outbound and receive inbound calls for accounts receivable to collect the payment from the clients
o Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, inventory, and intercompany transactions.
o Calculate overhead costs, including indirect labor, amortization, bad debts, consulting, delivery, credit card charges, management salary, occupancy, office and general expenses, office salaries, professional and selling expenses.
o Ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive financial data.
3. Cost Accounting
o Develop and maintain production department-wise costing systems to ensure transparency in expenses and efficiency in operations.
o Analyze production costs, variances, and inventory valuation to ensure accurate reporting and decision-making.
o Analyze manufacturing standard costs versus actual product costs.
o Calculate direct and indirect labor costs per department and track overall production efficiency.
o Analyze labor tasks per employee and per department to ensure daily production aligns with daily pay.
o Conduct biweekly analyses of production shortages and monitor the efficiency of each employee and department.
4. Taxation & Compliance
o File HST/GST and other regulatory reporting requirements on time.
o Manage corporate tax filings and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
o Prepare Records of Employment (ROE) for employees as required.
5. Budgeting & Forecasting
o Prepare annual budget and periodic forecasts.
o Create and manage the budget, ensuring it aligns with departmental goals and financial constraints.
o Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on budget versus actual performance.
6. Grants & Credits
o Participate in R&D and apply for SR&ED credits and other government grants, ensuring compliance with application processes and submission requirements.
7. Payroll Management
o Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time, ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
8. Process Improvement
o Evaluate existing financial processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
o Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance
9. Year-End Closing & Auditing
o Prepare final accounts and ensure they are ready within 45 days for year-end closing.
o Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of audits.
o Conduct year-end inventory stock-taking with the storeroom in-charge, ensuring accuracy in the records and financial reporting.
10. Other Responsibilities
o Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and opportunities for development.
o Maintain high level confidentiality on company financial information
o Foster a collaborative and professional work environment.
o Carry out other duties as directed by management in support of the company's operational and financial objectives.
Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software, Sage 300
- Experience in SR&ED applications and other government grant programs.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power BI, including financial modeling and analysis.
- Experience in Canadian tax laws, payroll systems, and HST/GST filing.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and corporate finance principles.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform account analysis effectively.
- Experience in payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Knowledge of account reconciliation techniques and best practices.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA is must.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
