Our client who is a Not-For-Profit organization that provides a variety of services for seniors is looking for a Senior Payroll and Benefits specialist to manage payroll and benefits administration for both confidential and unionized employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing: Ensure the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for approximately 200 employees, including complex payroll structures.
- Employee Records: Update and maintain employee information, including new hires, terminations, and status changes.
- Reconciliation: Reconcile payroll reports and prepare statutory and non-statutory remittances (e.g., EHT, Pension, United Way, Union Dues, WSIB, Health Benefits, RRSP).
- Benefits Administration: Manage employee benefits plans and assist staff with payroll and benefits-related inquiries.
- Cross-Training: Provide training to finance team members to enhance team collaboration and support.
- Prepaid Expenses: Maintain and update schedules for prepaid expenses.
- Travel Allowance: Calculate and administer TTC travel allowances for eligible employees.
- Journal Entries: Prepare payroll-related journal entries.
- Budget Reporting: Prepare compensation schedules for budgeting and management reporting purposes.
- Year-End Reporting: Manage year-end processes, including the issuance of T4s through Dayforce, and reconciliation of EHT and WSIB.
- Statistical Reports: Assist in the preparation of statistical reports as required.
- Meetings: Participate in staff meetings and contribute to ongoing departmental initiatives.
- Safety & Compliance: Foster a culture of safety by adhering to organizational safety protocols, reporting unsafe practices, and implementing safety recommendations.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting or payroll, with experience handling complex payroll structures in a similar setting or industry.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting/Finance or enrollment in the 2nd or 3rd year of a CPA program.
- Certification as a Payroll Manager or Payroll Compliance Practitioner is an asset.
- Strong proficiency with Dayforce payroll software, Microsoft Excel and Word, and QuickBooks. Experience with Alayacare is a plus.
