Our employer is a privately held company, one of Canada’s largest private travel companies, specializing in faith groups, corporate and leisure travel, as well as customized tours.
Reporting to the Accounting Lead, the Senior Bookkeeper (full-time, in office, Thornhill, ON) will be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations.
Our ideal candidate will have the appropriate educational credentials with a minimum 5 years of Bookkeeping/Accounting experience. If you have some experience or working knowledge of Trams Accounting it is a plus, but not mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; ensure legal requirements compliance.
- Account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts; defining bookkeeping policies and procedures.
- Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
- Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
- Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
- Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
- Maintains historical records by filing documents.
- Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Complies with federal, state, and industry legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
- Enforce company procedures, account guidelines & customer service standards in the area of ticketing, commission disbursements, credit card transaction compliance, etc.
- Communicate effectively and professionally.
- Provide exceptional support to all our employees, agents, and customers in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Assist in issuing invoices, receipt payments, and maintaining financial documents.
- Assist in HR administration.
- Work as a team member and assist other agents as needed in completing all functions related to servicing the client.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of proven work experience as a Bookkeeper or Staff Accountant
- Strong numeracy and communication skills
- Proven ability to solve problems and make critical decisions
- Excellent knowledge of computer accounting systems, such as TRAMS, BSP, Quick Books
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
- A high level of attention to detail
- Familiarity with travel management processes and practices.
- Excellent communication, listening and presentation skills
- A self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects, and thrive in a high-performance team environment
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Previous bookkeeping experience
- CPA is a plus but not a must
Compensation Range: 65-75k
