Role Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Accounting/Finance Specialist to manage and enhance our financial operations. This role involves overseeing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and contributing to financial strategy and efficiency improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting & Financial Management:
· Oversee and coordinate all accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
· Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including review of supporting documentation and reconciliation.
· Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses, ensuring compliance with NCECF, GAAP, and other relevant accounting principles.
· Responsible for accounts payable and receivables, ensuring accurate processing and adherence to internal policies and procedures.
· Coordinate with external auditors for year-end financial statement processes and audits.
· Lead our year-end tax reporting and monthly Revenue Quebec payroll related submissions.
· Reconcile intercompany transactions and manage fixed assets, amortization, investments, and long-term liabilities.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
· Ensure adherence to Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements specific to crypto exchanges and MSBs.
· Oversee regulatory reporting, tax compliance, and corporate tax activities, preparing documentation as needed for external advisors.
· Monitor and address financial compliance issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Process Improvement & Documentation:
· Lead the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls and operational efficiency.
· Review and recommend improvements to existing accounting procedures and computerized accounting systems.
· Provide insights and recommendations to the IT team for performance improvements in accounting systems.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting:
· Conduct financial analysis, including monitoring expenditures, analyzing revenues, and determining budget variances.
· Generate financial reports and statements for management review and provide actionable insights.
· Lead, with the support of the cross-functional team support, the budget preparation, expense management, and financial forecasting.
- Vendor & Expense Management:
· Process and verify supplier invoices, ensuring alignment with purchase orders and goods receipts.
· Manage accounts payable, including invoice approvals, payment setups (wire transfers, EFTs, cheques), and responding to vendor inquiries.
· Reconcile vendor statements, investigate, and resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate records.
- Specialized Tasks:
- Manage digital wallets, oversee transactions and reconciliations.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
- Address accounting inquiries from management and provide guidance to co-workers as needed.
- Lead all initiatives related to new banking and payment vendor relations, including the identification and application of new partner relationships.
- Manage foreign currency transactions, including handling gains and losses due to exchange rate fluctuations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and NCECF standards.
- Regulatory requirements for crypto exchanges is a strong bonus.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance within a start-up or fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and experience in a multi-jurisdictional, multi-company, or multi-currency environment (preferred).
- Experience managing accounting functions related to crypto trading and B2B payment services is highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes, including vendor management and invoice reconciliation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions.
- Proficiency in financial software and computerized accounting systems, with the ability to evaluate and suggest performance improvements.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, vendors, and external advisors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation is a plus).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, preferably within the cryptocurrency or financial services sector.
