Come join our team and apply for the Payroll Specialist position! Our Payroll Specialist operates as the subject matter expert regarding payroll administration and current payroll best practices, bringing forth recommendations for process improvements and creating efficiencies.
Responsible for performing a variety of complex tasks in relation to the processing of weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for the TTC. This includes performing in-depth analysis, control and accounting functions to ensure accurate payroll distribution. Review and balance associated payroll accounts, submit year end statements as required. Responsible for balancing annual T4/T4A and adjustments to the annual PIER report, ensuring employees’ T4/T4A and government remittance accounts are accurate. Prepare and submit remittance to CRA and Ontario Health Tax. Processes off-cycle payroll runs when required. Review and submit ROE after each pay processing cycle. Ensures compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, internal policies, Provincial Legislation (Employment Standards Act) and Federal Legislation (Canada Labour Code) using various SAP standard and customized reports. Ensures accurate Time and Payroll calculations for each union and non-union groups, having a good understanding of applicable CBA regulations. Performs monthly Statistics Canada Reporting. Imports and validates time data entries to SAP Payroll for the payroll processing using reports.
Liaises with TTC Employee Relations, CPA, CRA and Service Canada representatives to ensure compliance with various policies and tax laws. Ensures all government remittances are reconciled on a regular basis, handles all enquiries from CRA and other government tax offices, and investigates any discrepancies.
Assists Manager – Payroll Processing & Compliance with various payroll related audits and year end reporting. Prepares journal entries in S/4 HANA for required out of system adjustments. Perform Users Acceptance Testing for changes required in SAP Payroll.

- Completion of a Degree/Diploma in a related field (Accounting, Finance), or the equivalent in work experience, combined with several years of relevant senior payroll/office administration experience, and payroll accounting experience
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office, including intermediate to advanced level Excel skills
- Strong understanding of SAP Payroll, Workforce, S/4 HANA
- Experience working within a Payroll environment
- Solid background working with Payroll Systems and Time & Attendance Systems
- Solid understanding of Year End processes in payroll
- Working knowledge of Employment Standards in the province of Ontario.
- Demonstrated experience with mainframe systems (PPS, NROE, OARS, RABS, AMS) and SAP modules.
