As an integral member of the Finance team and reporting to the Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant supports specific financial accounting functions for the organization, in the area of Payables and Compliance. Financial Accountants have responsibility for their area of focus to prepare payments to Health Service Providers, journal entries, account reconciliations and ad hoc analysis. The Accountant responds to inquiries of internal or external stakeholders and ensures that support is complete and accurate. They are detail oriented, take initiative, identify issues and solutions, and have effective communication skills.
Here is what you will be doing:

Support the disbursement of approximately $4 billion in annual payments to transfer payment recipients, through the review, validation, analysis and processing of executed agreements.

Manage Supplier Contracts in Workday per Transfer Payment Agreements terms and conditions.

Respond to payment-related inquiries from external and internal stakeholders in a clear, concise, and timely fashion.

Collaborate with colleagues, both within Finance and within Provincial Programs of Ontario Health, on matters related to Transfer Payments and other matters related to areas of responsibilities.

Prepare journal entries in accordance with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards and the organization’s policies and procedures, with complete and accurate support.

Reconcile accounts, investigate irregularities, and provide recommended solution.

Respond to Audit Requests by both preparing analysis and communicating the work performed to internal and/or external auditors.

Complete required regulatory and ad hoc reporting.

Identify opportunities to improve tools, procedures, and the internal control framework, and collaborate on solutions.

Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Perform other duties within the functional area as assigned.

Be attentive and apply professional skepticism to areas of fraud risk and abide by the internal controls designed to prevent and detect fraudulent activity. Report any actual, alleged, or suspected fraud in accordance with procedures, and report any believed gaps in internal controls to management.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree program in related field i.e., Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

3 years' experience in accounting, reporting, and analysis
-
Chartered Professional Accountant designation or currently working towards qualification
-
Knowledge of accounting practices, procedures and Public Sector Accounting Standards
-
Competent in Microsoft Office environment, specifically Microsoft Excel
-
Experience with ERP, experience in Workday Financials is considered an asset
