Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, the Specialist, Benefits, Payroll & Systems will manage the administration and processing of Canadian payroll for Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Stadium staff, while overseeing the U.S. employee benefit plans and providing backup support for U.S. payroll processing. This role also involves general accounting duties related to payroll, benefits, and HR administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration
- Act as the primary point of contact for all Canadian payroll-related inquiries.
- Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly staff, including event-specific payroll for baseball games, concerts, and non-baseball events.
- Generate payroll and settlement reports for finance and operations on both regular and ad-hoc schedules.
- Contribute to the transition and implementation of the new timekeeping system (ABI).
- Prepare and reconcile Canadian payroll tax remittances, including quarterly and annual tax filings (e.g., WSIB, Non-Resident Tax Reporting, EHT).
- Process payroll payments via wire/ACH, including international payroll payments.
Benefits & Systems Administration:
- Administer U.S. employee benefit plans, including enrollment, processing plan changes, and reconciling monthly invoices and payments.
- Collaborate with finance and people operations teams to track and maintain accurate U.S. headcount records.
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing management of the new U.S. HRIS system, ensuring smooth integration with payroll and benefits processes.
- Maintain and support the Canadian Time & Attendance System ABI (transition from UKG) for both managers and employees.
- Assign and manage access levels for managers within the system.
- Provide backup payroll support for Florida part-time payroll and U.S. Minor League payroll processing.
Ad-hoc Projects & Research:
- Conduct research and assist with additional tasks or special projects as required.
Qualifications:
- University or college graduate with a degree in business, accounting, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in payroll and/or accounting.
- Experience with both Canadian and U.S. payroll and tax regulations is preferred.
- Experience with payroll systems such as OTL (Oracle Time & Labour), ADP, UKG, and ABI is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines for reporting and payments.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Self-motivated, independent worker with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
