Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Intern is primarily responsible for facilitating month-end close processes, general ledger and bank reconciliations and journal entries pertaining to the Retail Finance, Commercial Finance and Accounts Payables business lines of BMW Group Financial Services Canada.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Perform general ledger accounting functions such as journal entry preparation, month-end close processes, financial reporting accuracy and compliance to IFRS and ASPE standards, GL account reconciliations and analysis of key balance sheet and income statement account balance movements.
- Provide support to the accounting team for efficient month-end, quarter-end and year-end close.
- Prepare mid-year, interim, year-end audit working papers and coordinate with manager for both internal and external auditors.
- Discuss reoccurring variances with the Accounting team, identify system problems and recommend solutions to the US IT team in order to fix at the root cause.
- Collaborate with other business functions to proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies and internal control gaps, and address findings to the Accounting manager.
- Act as an additional resource for Accounts Payable related functions.
- Ad hoc Projects/Analysis.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Recent graduate (within the last 12 months) with a bachelors degree in a related area.
- Any knowledge in the use of accounting software and Crystal Reporting would be an asset.
- Prior experience with preparing and analyzing account reconciliations would also be an advantage.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills,
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- High attention to detail, an enthusiastic attitude and a passion for learning.
