The Position:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Controller, this role entails elements of both financial and management reporting. The General Accountant’s responsibilities include supporting the month-end close process (including preparation of journal entries and vouchers), financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting (including for conferences) and external audits.

What you will be working on:
- Support compliance with accounting policies and procedures, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, assisting with month-end close activities, conducting required checks, and performing account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Support daily cash receipt and reporting functions as needed.
- Assist in analyzing and investigating significant variances in monthly financial reports by comparing actual results to budgeted or forecasted figures. This includes identifying the root causes of discrepancies, evaluating the impact on overall financial performance, and working with relevant departments to ensure accurate reporting and timely corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage monthly recording and reconciliation of investments, including tracking transactions (e.g., interest, maturity, renewals, buys/sells), coordinating with investment managers for Board reporting, and handling ad-hoc requests.
- Provide analytical support for financial budgeting and forecasting, including preparing content for presentations to the Board of Directors. Monitor key planning assumptions in collaboration with cost center managers to track and address risks and opportunities.
- Assist in preparing the annual forecasting process and compile reports comparing actual performance to budget for relevant cost centers.
- Manage invoicing and billing for membership fees, including preparing invoices, maintaining accurate database records for fees and premiums, and web postings.
- Collaborate with accounting team in the timely filing of the annual and quarterly tax returns (including T2 Corporate Tax Return, and Federal and Revenue Quebec NPO T1044 information returns, quarterly GST/HST Returns) and sales tax recoveries.
- Propose improvements across the function resulting in reduced cycle time, improved internal client experience, enhanced standardization and process documentation.
- Support the planning, preparation of working papers and financial statements for annual year-end financial audit; Assist external auditors with various requests
- Perform other special projects, ad-hoc analysis and reports as required.
What you will bring:
- A university degree and two (2) to five (5) years professional experience in Finance/Accounting roles, with strong working knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- You demonstrate the highest level of ethics, personal integrity, and confidentiality.
- You have excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- You have superb computer skills with an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- You’re great at researching, investigating, and analyzing numerical information to project financial outcomes.
- You’ve got strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- A working knowledge of French is an asset for this role.
- Working towards obtaining the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation would be an asset.
