About the role:
The Corporate Accountant role will be a key member of the corporate accounting team supporting account receivable, account payable, cash management and other functions. This role is to support convenience store (“c-store”) and other billing process which includes maintaining the billing system, generating invoices and account statements, performing account reconciliations, and coordinating with other departments. In addition, this position supports cash management to ensure all cash receipts and deposits are booked timely. The role is also responsible for preparing monthly depreciation schedules and supporting account payables functions.
This role requires the candidate to be detail-oriented to spot any issues that may arise, organized to meet tight deadlines, open-minded to learn and communicate when uncertain.
Key activities:
Accounts Receivable
- Responsible for c-store rebates which includes billing and dispatching invoices, preparing monthly AR aging reports, and following up with internal and external customers.
- Coordinate with convenience retail team to ensure accurate and timely billing.
- Responsible for all billing inquiries and maintaining customer profiles.
- Generate AR Aging report and flag any aged outstanding items and follow up with customers or CR team.
- Investigating and resolving any irregularities or enquiries.
- Maintain c-store customer accounts.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations.
Cash Management
- Process weekly payment batches (PAD, VISA, Online payments).
- Prepare all cash receipts (EFT, Check deposits and online payments).
- Prepare bank entries.
- Ad-hoc report as needed.
Accounts Payable and Other Responsibilities
- Process all utility, hydro and telephone invoices.
- Perform the monthly depreciation schedule and provide analysis on monthly depreciation expenses.
- Prepare monthly Rent journal entry.
- Responsible for annual mandatory statistics surveys.
- Support ad-hoc analysis and projects.
- Assist ad-hoc task related to Account Receivables.
Skills/attributes required:
- Diploma in Accounting or Business.
- An ability to prioritize and manage expectations.
- A keen eye for detail.
- An ability to work independently.
- The ability to communicate efficiently with other people within the company.
- Minimum 1-3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the retail industry.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written) required.
- Strong organization, analytical and time management skills.
Skills/attributes desired:
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft NAV or other ERP systems (Oracle) an asset.
