Tax Manager
Job Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for supporting the tax functions of the practice. This includes management of various corporate and personal tax return preparation activities required by our clients, T3 return preparation, partnership return preparation, responding to CRA audits/reviews and providing support on complex tax issues. In addition, the Tax Manager will be involved in the management and completion of compilations, review engagements and audit engagements. The Tax Manager is a client-facing position and should be comfortable presenting and explaining complex tax matters directly to clients.

Experience:
- Education:
- CPA designation required
- In-depth tax program completed or in progress (preferred)
- Accounting: 3 - 5 years of related experience in public practice providing corporate and personal tax preparation and compilation engagements. Review and audit engagement experience is desirable.
- Accounting Software: related experience with accounting software (Caseware, TaxCycle, QBO, Xero, etc.)
- Experience with tax planning for owner-managed private enterprises
- Experience with estate and retirement planning is desirable
Job Duties:
- The tax manager will focus on review, training and support, but will also prepare more complex returns
- Tax review and preparation: T1, T2, T3, T5013
- Supporting staff and clients with tax issues
- Preparation of Compilation statements and working papers for more complex files
- Preparation of assurance engagements (Reviews and Audits)
- Client engagement on tax matters, tax planning, retirement/succession planning and identifying opportunities for tax savings
Skills & Abilities:
- Detail oriented with excellent organization and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills, written and in person
- Comfortable in a client facing role
- Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills
- Supportive to junior staff, able to provide coaching on tax preparation
- Able to complete work to deadlines and with little direct supervision
- Driven, self-motivated, and goal-oriented.
