Position Overview
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accounts Payable (A/P) Specialist is responsible for performing the day-to-day accounts payable activities of the Progressive Group of Companies. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely processing and payment of vendor invoices, expense reports, and credit card transactions.
The Senior A/P Specialist supports finance management with implementation of standardized processes, key performance indicators, and controls and procedure documentation.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensures accurate and timely recording of vendor invoices, expense reports, and credit card transactions in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
· Verifies expense documentation, such as receipts and invoices, for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate approval.
· Ensures accurate entry of invoices and expenses into the accounting software, considering the correct entity within the group, general ledger account, department, and project codes.
· Ensures timely payment of vendor invoices, expense reports, and corporate credit card balances in compliance with payment terms and conditions.
· Collaborates with vendors, employees, and banks to resolve any issues or inquiries related to invoices, employee expense reports, and payment transactions.
· Supports the month-end A/P process, enabling timely and accurate financial reporting.
· Identifies opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements to streamline A/P operations.
· Contributes to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
· University degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
· 5+ years of proven experience in an Accounts Payable position.
· Knowledge of accounting concepts and principles.
· Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
· Proficiency in using Sage or similar software for expense management.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
· Strong planning and organization skills.
· Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.
· Solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Open Work Permit).
