Senior Property Accountant Opportunity
Job Purpose and Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant calculates, prepares, and processes financial records according to the established TPM procedure. This position oversees the work of junior accounting staff, reviewing financial statements to ensure accuracy and reconcile general ledger accounts. The Senior accountant is required to have a strong track record of providing accurate and timely financial information, has the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the operation team and is proactive in finding solutions to improve inefficiencies and workflow. Also, the senior accountant performs various aspects of the accounts receivable and accounts payable process including processing invoices, collections, posting and depositing revenues, issuing cheques, bank reconciliation duties, government subsidy reconciliations and assisting with preparing budgets, year-ends, audits and financial statements. This position suits someone who has a strong general knowledge of property accounting and can mentor junior team members.
The position demands professional and consistent communication with employees, managers, executives and directors to fulfill financial requirements and to ensure that transactions are processed correctly in an efficient manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
General Accounting:
· Manage and oversee the daily processing of Accounts Payables (AP) and Accounts Receivables (AR)
· Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports including month end financial statements, budget comparison reports, etc.
· Establish and enforce proper accounting methods for AP and AR policies and procedures.
· Coordinate and complete annual audits
· Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
· Meet financial accounting objectives.
· Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
· Prepare and/or review appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, assist with regulatory reporting as applicable.
· Support and provide solutions for AP and AR processing.
· Implement and monitor the month, quarter, and year-end closeout accounting schedules.
· Complete bank reconciliation for all entities
· Assist Director of Finance with special projects.
AP and AR:
· Sort, code, match incoming invoices from vendors, tenants etc.
· Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and any other related invoice issues
· Prepare and perform check runs on a monthly basis
· Correspond with vendors & property managers
· Daily filing of any supporting documentation
· Post transactions to journals and tenant ledgers
· Generate monthly rent charges as well as any additional charges
· Process rent changes as directed by property managers
· Set up pre-authorized payments (PAP) from tenants and process in our system
· Prepare bank deposits including both cash and cheque deposits
· Administer tenants move-in and move-outs in the system
· Prepare bank reconciliations and government subsidy reconciliations
· Assist in payroll preparation
· Assist with preparing budgets
· Assist with preparing year-ends and audits
· Assist with preparing financial statements and supplemental reports
· Ensures that work area is clean, organized, secure and well maintained
· Stays informed of trends and relevant changes in the property management sector and our direct competitors through market research
· Embrace and pro-actively support TPM’s forward movement of the business platform through identifying opportune innovative strategies, cost-effective operations, business development and social responsibility
· Make sure AR and AP sub-ledger tie-out to balance the general ledger
Others:
· Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or the General Manager
Qualifications:
· Post secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
· CPA candidate or designation
· Prefer 10 years of direct full cycle accounting experience
· Prefer 5 years senior accounting experience in property management
· Spectra or Yardi or Arcori experience a definite asset
· Experience working in the community property management, not for profit organizations, considered an asset
· Experience with multi-company organizations and inter-company transactions an asset
· Strong analytical skills an asset, proficient on reconciliation(s) processes

· Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, post, correct, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
· Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; of basic bookkeeping methods and terminology; of business arithmetic; and of filing, indexing and cross-referencing methods.
· Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
· Ability to use a computer and other office equipment effectively.
· Ability to learn, understand and apply the policies and procedures pertaining to the work, to understand, carry out and issue clear oral and written instructions.
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those encountered in the course of work.
· Strong teamwork, communication and problem resolution skills
· Basic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
· Skilled at working with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel spreadsheets.
· Extreme attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
· Analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
· A clean criminal record check for working with children and vulnerable adults

The nature of work requires light level physical effort and/or dexterity.
Mental Effort
The nature of work may include frequent periods of intense concentration, frequent interruptions and meeting multiple tasks and deadlines. Must be extremely detail oriented, scrutinize and reconcile accounting information.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
