Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the General Accountant / Payroll Administrator position will oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions. The position will require day-to-day accounting tasks to ensure prompt and accurate financial reporting. The duties may include:
Essential Functions
- Manage the bi-weekly payroll and maintain the tip pool allocation;
- Reconcile and enter the payroll journal in the general ledger;
- Manage employee files ensuring compliance and accuracy of information;
- Communicate with staff on any payroll related information and respond as required to questions.
- Responsible for required remittances such as EI, CPP, EHT and Worker’s Compensation.
- Review and/or processes billing/invoicing and enter data into the accounting databases;
- Prepare weekly cheque runs and maintain AP Trial Balance;
- Verify daily sales registers and credit card transactions with bank statements to ensure completeness and accuracy;
- Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies;
- Prepare daily bank account reconciliations;
- Prepare ad hoc reports as required by the business; and
- Additional duties as assigned.
Competencies
- 3-5 years of working experience in payroll and/or accounting;
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process;
- Experience working in the hospitality and/or restaurant industry preferred;
- Advanced MS Excel skills;
- Accuracy and attention to detail and aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills;
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Finance;
- Experience with Sage or Sage Intacct accounting software preferred, currently use Nethris for our payroll processing;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to prioritize workload and flexibility to manage multiple tasks;
- High attention to detail; and
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
