As Controller, you will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of company financial planning, cash and budget management functions. You will be responsible for ensuring company accounting procedures conform to regulatory and audit standards. Responsible for ensuring that all accounting allocations are appropriately made and documented. Perform cash management functions and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements, payroll, and bank reconciliation functions. This position is fully remote in BC and requires someone with strong communication skills to be successful.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Financial Leadership:
- Oversee daily operations of the finance department.
- Oversee financial management of all operations including developing financial and budget policies and procedures. Ensuring all accounting and finance systems meet the minimum required under regulatory rules.
- The effective leadership and mentoring of individuals within the accounting department.
- All decisions relating to the maintenance and enhancement of accounting and finance systems integrity.
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of all company tax and related government reporting.
- Serve as primary government liaison relative to company financial issues.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions in conjunction with the head of Finance.
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and trends.
- Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
Process Improvement:
- Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
- Evaluate current financial processes and systems, identifying areas for improvement and efficiency.
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Maintain integrity of all financial and accounting systems, functions, and reporting processes.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and company investment decisions.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information and reporting.
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of all company tax and related government reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Accounting Designation - CPA required.
- 5-10 years of senior-level finance and accounting management experience.
- Proven work experience as a Controller.
- Experience in key financial management areas such as reporting, budgeting, cash management, Pro-forma statements, and working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting.
- Knowledge of retail accounting concepts and tax filing requirements.
- Experience in forensic audit complemented with the ability to identify financial anomalies is critical.
- Experience in multiple accounting systems, such as Xero, Sage, Microsoft NAV Dynamics is an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
