What We’re Looking For
Nortrans is excited to announce that we're seeking a Controller to join our talented team of transportation experts. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Controller will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the company, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the transportation industry. The Controller will work independently at Nortrans, however, will have the support of our part-time Finance Manager.
This person should bring a blend of hands-on experience and professionalism. They excel at collaborating with different teams (Maintenance, Dispatch, Payroll etc.) and are comfortable preparing and telling a story with data.
We are looking for an individual who is based in or is willing to relocate to the Okanagan Valley. The Controller will work out of the Kelowna office.
Potential for full-time or part-time depending on preference. Potential for hybrid work.
A Day In The Life of The Controller
· Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions.
· Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
· Manage the following accounting functions: A/P, GL, expenses, cost accounting, revenue recognition, weekly cashflow management, and month-end. Develop an understanding of billing, A/R, and payroll which are managed by other members of the team.
· Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports to review with Nortrans’ CFO.
· Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
· Manage and comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
· Collaborate with other departments to optimize financial performance.
· Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
· Preparation of various reconciliations, accruals, and other transaction reports
What You'll Bring To The Table
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA preferred.
· Five years’ experience in full cycle accounting, preferably in transportation or a related industry.
· Experience with Truckmate or another Transportation Management System (TMS).
· Intermediate to advanced Excel, Word, MS Office.
· Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical abilities and sound judgment.
· Excellent time management and multi-tasking with ability to prioritize tasks.
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
