Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for analyzing financial statements and other documents to ensure the organization is compliant with Canadian accounting standards for non-for-profit organizations (ASNPO). This position will work closely with funders and external stakeholders to reconcile actual expenses and provide comprehensive reports for the reporting periods. The accountant/controller will collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to generate accurate and timely financial reporting.
Functions and responsibilities
- Administer and supervise high-volume transactions in both payables and receivables Conduct reconciliation of rent and credit card transactions
- Demonstrate proficiency in reviewing and understanding Financial Statements
- Ensure timely bank payment and effective cash management.
- Managing expense reimbursements
- Oversee all accounting transactions
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Director Of Operations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Collaborate with building managers to ensure accurate reporting and financial management of projects.
- Possess a general understanding of payroll process
- Prepare and submit detailed reports to funders, reconciling actual expenses with budgeted amounts
- Oversee the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
- Collaborate with the finance team to develop and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies
- Provide in-depth financial analysis to support decision making by Executive Team and the Board of Directors
- Reconcile accounts receivable to assure prompt collections.
- Supervise junior accountant and payroll clerk, providing daily oversight, guidance, and professional development

- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO)
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Solid proficiency in Office 365, especially Excel and accounting software.
- Advanced Pay works and SAGE 50 experience.
- 3 - 5 years of experience in a combination of payroll administration and general accounting tasks.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) strongly preferred
- Experience working with BC Housing and Vancouver Coastal Health is a significant asset
- Proven track record of successfully managing the financial operations of a not-for-profit organization

Pay: $80,000.00-$99,000.00 per year
