As the successful candidate you will be responsible for the timely calculation, processing, and distribution of Canadian payrolls, including manual entries, executing of payroll changes, tax computation, deductions, and reconciliation requirements. This individual will research and provide recommendations on business solutions to support operational initiatives and provide comprehensive service to employees at all levels, ensuring compliance with all internal policies and procedures.

What you will do as a Payroll Coordinator:
- Process Canadian weekly and bi-weekly payroll runs ensuring meticulous processing of transactions in adherence to internal policies, procedures, and government agency regulations
- Verify and update employee status changes, benefits deductions, taxable benefits, garnishments, leave of absences, new hires, terminations and processing of ROEs and other payroll related entries
- Generate payroll remittance reports (third parties, pension, GL), ad hoc, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual report from HRIS system (Dayforce) and other systems
- Create payroll journal entries per pay and post to the correct GL accounts: create and post monthly accrual entries to the GL with supporting documentation
- Cultivate specialized knowledge in becoming a subject matter expert (SME) through active participation in job training, seminars, and networking. Identify risks and ensuring controls in payroll processing, reporting, tax issues, Dayforce software and other payroll and accounting systems
- Process employees in and out of pension plan(s), complete changes and conduct monthly billing reconciliations to Finance
- Contribute to year-end preparations by conducting audits, processing necessary adjustments, and ensuring the balance of tax forms
- Maintain the documentation flow for payroll changes, with clear communication with internal departments to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll adjustments
- Create, monitor, and update all Canadian Payroll Processing documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Serve as an outstanding customer service representative for the organization, addressing inquiries from internal and external customers in a timely manner
- Calculate termination payments and manual payroll adjustments, as well as remittances for source deductions, garnishees, etc.
- Work closely with HR to ensure employee records and/or changes are set up correctly, as well as support other HR related correspondence such as employment letters, birthdays and anniversaries, increase and bonus letters
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in full-cycle payroll processing
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field an asset
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from NPI (National Payroll Institute) is an asset
- Experience and/or working knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce. Knowledge of HR Downloads also an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams
- Strong communication skills and ability to speak with all levels of the organization
- Excellent organization skills, analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail
- Knowledge of Canadian employment law, payroll legislation and accounting principles
- Ability to work with highly confidential, sensitive information in a professional manner
