Accounting Clerk
About the Position
Mushuau Innu First Nation (MIFN) is seeking an Accounting Clerk to support the operations of their Finance Department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for completing the full scope of Accounts Payable functions while ensuring accuracy and following all financial controls.
This position is based at MIFN's Finance Office in Goose Bay, NL.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
· Match vendor invoices with approved purchase orders and processes accounts payable.
· Process travel and expense claims and other miscellaneous payments.
· Prepare and processes cheques and EFT payments in a timely manner.
· Prepare weekly vendor and claim packages for management review.
· Issue payment remittances to vendors.
· Perform monthly vendor statement reconciliations and other month-end tasks within the specified timeframes.
· Ensure that amounts claimed by vendors are within contract terms.
· Ensure transactions are coded to the correct department, funding source, and project.
· Monitor the status of purchase orders.
· Reconcile and process monthly credit card statements and payments.
· Record general journal entries including accruals.
Program and Service Delivery:
· Work collaboratively with external vendors and internal departments to meet program and service mandates.
· Follow the established departmental procedures and maintain accurate records.
· Follow controls to comply with security, privacy, and confidentiality requirements.
· Maintain files for recordkeeping.
· Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.
· Support year-end procedures and provide information to external auditors.
· As delegated, help to manage agreements, reporting requirements. and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Experience and Education Requirements:
· Degree or diploma in accounting.
· Minimum 3 years experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
· Previous experience working with Sage 50 is considered an asset.
· Previous experience working with First Nations and funding agencies is considered an asset.
Other Requirements:
· Ability to successfully and periodically undergo an appropriate criminal records review and police record check is required.
