The Evergreens Foundation is a not-for-profit housing management body proudly supporting independent housing across six unique municipalities in Alberta. As a member of the Alberta Seniors & Community Housing Association, we deliver welcoming and supportive environments for independent residents in our lodges and social housing units, ensuring our services meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and ensure the continued sustainability of our programs. Reporting to our Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), this leadership role requires a strategic thinker with a CPA designation and demonstrated expertise in financial management, reporting, and compliance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for a team of dedicated professionals as well as overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and operational excellence in support of our mission to provide quality housing and community support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial strategies to support the organization’s goals and long-term sustainability.
- Prepare and present timely and accurate financial reports to the CAO, Board of Directors, and External Stakeholders.
- Oversee all aspects of budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- ·Ensure compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements, including audits and reporting for government and non-governmental funding bodies.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk to maintain organizational stability.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Collaborate with the senior leadership team to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
- Act as the primary liaison with auditors, banks, and other financial institutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- CPA designation (CPA Alberta or equivalent).
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within a not-for-profit or housing-related organization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial reporting standards, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Familiarity with public sector funding models and compliance requirements is an asset.
- Proven leadership experience, including team management and development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to financial management.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems such as UKG and Yardi.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
