To keep up with our growing needs, our client is hiring a “Project Accountant” to provide full cycle accounting support to our sales, construction and warranty teams. Duties will include preparation of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, sales reporting, and other financial reports. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Project Accountant will also ensure adherence to the established system of internal controls while providing accurate financial reporting in a safe and friendly work environment.

Job purpose

The Project Accountant ensures the books and records of all companies in the portfolio are accurate and complete in accordance with professional accounting standards and procedures.

Duties and responsibilities

Accounting & Financial

Manage full cycle accounting functions by recording all book keeping transactions, intercompany reconciliations, acquisition and sale transactions.

Monthly management of assigned trial balances to ensure that all controls are in place and reporting is completely accurate at all times

Record all bank, trust and deposit transactions

Record and reconcile all loan statements

Input and administer all Accounts Payable and Vendor holdbacks for assigned projects

Input and administer Accounts Receivable for assigned projects

Reconcile and verify purchaser’s deposit ledger to sales reports monthly

Prepare and file HST returns.

Assist with compilation of information for CRA audits as required.

Accurate completion of year-end working paper files. Calculate cost of sales allocation on closed units and cost-to-complete accruals where required.

Assist in adherence of processes to ensure adequate controls are operating and effective

Continuously seeking process improvement strategies

Banking

Daily monitoring and administration of the company bank accounts

Monthly reporting as required

Letter of Credit administration

Preparation of EFT payment files for on-line banking

Qualifications

Accounting experience –minimum 2-3 years of solid real estate industry experience. Experience in development and/or home construction industry is a must.

Experience with Newstar is an asset.

Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and comprehension) are imperative. Strong attention to detail.
