How you'll make an impact
As a Senior Payroll Specialist reporting to the Director, Defined Benefit Pension Administration, you will be an integral member of a dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team processing monthly annuity payments and related payroll and reporting activities for thousands of retirees. Thriving in a busy environment and with keen attention to detail, the successful candidate will be a key team member helping to manage a complex payroll process with multiple payroll cycles while ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations . Efficiently manage and process monthly payroll for thousands of domestic and international payees
- Prepare and file tax documents and reports with the CRA
- Administer and process payroll garnishments and benefit deductions accurately
- Maintain and update payroll records, including new payees
- Process tax forms
- Maintain compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations and internal policies. Ensure that payroll processes align with industry best practices.
- Reporting and reconciliation
- Participate in annual tax slip preparation, yearend reporting and reconciliation
- Serve as a key point of contact, providing expert advice on payroll and benefits matters
- Investigate and resolve any payroll discrepancies, and answer inquiries from payees
- Assist with audits, system testing, process documentation, and continuous improvement of payroll systems and processes
- Maintain accurate documentation of payroll procedures, and ensure that all payroll activities are well-documented and auditable
- Liaise with external vendors
- Suggest and implement process enhancements
- Train and mentor staff
- Perform additional duties as required
About you:
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably within a corporate or consulting environment.
- Minimum PCP designation required
- Proficiency in payroll software, with specific expertise in Worklinks or Dayforce, as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll laws and tax regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts clearly.
- Fluency in English and French is an asset
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of payroll processing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues independently and efficiently.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Experience in managing or participating in payroll and benefits projects or implementations.
- Strong focus on providing excellent service to internal and external clients.
