Marmon Rail Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist with a service-minded work ethic to support our payroll team. This individual will be responsible for a wide range of payroll tasks, provide service support to our Rail group, and participate in related projects. Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager at the corporate office, this is a highly visible and essential role within the organization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process full cycle payroll (weekly and semi-monthly), for employees across multiple provinces, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian Payroll regulations.

Coordinate with repair shops, onsite locations, mobile units, and corporate departments to ensure completion of new hire and termination procedures and documentation.

Stay current with federal and provincial payroll legislation and regulations

Prepare and process weekly, monthly, accruals and GL’s.

Analyze and recommend changes to payroll process/procedure which improve accuracy and efficiency.

Manage special projects and support other process automation initiatives at the direction of the Payroll Manager.

Provide information and answer employee questions about payroll-related matters and conduct lunch and learn weekly sessions.

Ensure payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly.

Respond to and resolve any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting.

Prepare, review, and file statutory reports (e.g., T4/T4A, ROE, and EI remittances) in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines.

Other related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring to the Role:
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or related field.
-
2+ years of Canadian payroll experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now and Workday, preferably in a multi-locations and union environment.

Payroll Compliance and Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.

High level of accounting understanding of G.L.’s and debit and credits.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Superior interpersonal and communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including intermediate-to-high level of Microsoft Excel expertise

Passion for payroll, collaboration, learning, process improvements, and technology

Enthusiasm for helping others.
