About The Role
The purpose of this role within the Members Payable function of the Finance department is to deal with the financial aspects, including payments and taxation of distributions to Members and International Societies. To enter and record financial transactions in the SOCAN Member and International Society sub ledgers on the financial accounting system.
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
- Process and verify Member and International Society adjustments/advances in accordance with the SOCAN distribution rules and Finance's policy and procedures. Also ensuring appropriate signatures and approval levels are adhered to
- Create Member and International Society detailed adjustment statements
- Process all aspects of member and society payments consisting of cheques, direct deposit and wires ensuring all back-up documentation is provided
- Reconcile the sub ledgers to the general ledger
- Organize all aspects of the quarterly distribution payments to ensure that cheques are sent out by the 15th, of each quarter
- Balance, reconcile and process quarterly payments for the International Societies
- Create and maintain various monthly, quarterly and yearly reports
- Prepare various bank reconciliations
- Liaise with SOCAN's bank on various issues including stop payments, incoming and outgoing wires, stale-dated cheques, etc…
- Maintain demand file and correspondence with Members, government agencies with respect to all requirements to pay
- Preparing the annual Member and Society tax forms including electronic filing with government agencies and in house form modifications as necessary
- Other duties as required including ad hoc projects for systems improvement etc.
What You Will Bring / Qualifications & Experience
- Accounting certificate or diploma would be an asset
- 2 – 5 years of AP Experience
- Knowledge of accounting software packages preferably EPICOR and Paystation
- Knowledge of e-commerce banking applications e.g. AP link
- Good working knowledge of MS word, excel and outlook
- General accounting skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
