We invite applications for the position of Accountant to join our Finance team in Outlook, SK. The incumbent will support full-cycle accounting with a commitment to sound accounting policies, practices and internal control systems.
What you’ll do:
Perform general accounting activities by supporting the analysis and preparation of financial reports and statements. This includes preparation of journal entries/ledgers, fixed asset and inventory accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, reconciliation, and/or financial statement consolidation. Leads general accounting practices including independent, objective assessment of governance, risk management process and system of internal control structure. Perform detailed accounting procedures, evaluating and assessing the co-operatives controls, processes, and procedures. Works across multiple areas of accounting based on changing business needs. Develops an understanding of policies and procedures and provides input into accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Develops reporting and schedules for internal and external stakeholders, including management, board, and compliance reporting. Prepare and analyze actual monthly, quarterly and year-end consolidated financial statements and other reports with oversight from more senior team members.
- Prepares and reviews consolidated reports and financial statements. Provides an assessment of financial controls and procedures to enhance related policies, procedures, and processes. Prepares financial statements and reports for filing with regulatory agencies based on relevant accounting standards. Assist in analyzing impact of new accounting standards, reporting requirements, and regulatory standards and new transactions.
- Perform general and cost accounting activities through the preparation and analysis of budgeting/forecasting, cost reports, balance sheets, general ledgers, and payable/receivable accounts, including preparing journal entries and checks as required. Analyze and reconcile complex financial reporting discrepancies and ensures compliance with financial transaction recording standards.
- Support the planning, preparation, and documentation for the auditing process, including gathering documentation and the preparation for processing various sales, purchase and expense documents. Assist in reviewing accuracy of financial statements ensuring they are in accordance with accounting standards.
Who you are:
You are looking for a career in accounting and have:
- Post-Secondary Education in Accounting, Commerce or Business.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a related-Accounting position (Retail / Petroleum accounting considered an asset).
- Consideration may be given to relevant experience.
- CPA, Equivalent Accounting Designation, or CPA in progress is an asset.
- Be able to work in a collaborative, fast paced, team environment.
- Hands-on experience with full cycle accounting in terms of direct participation in month-end and year-end accounting activities; financial analysis and reporting; and, budgeting.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office programs with advanced level Excel skills.
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
