Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly responsible certified professional accountant to join our team as the Director of Finance. This full-time position will strategically oversee the organization's financial processes, assess business viability, identify opportunities for growth, and manage financial resources and assets, while also overseeing accounting staff.
As a key member of the executive management team, the Director of Finance will provide expert advice on key financial decisions, investments, and ensure accurate accounting records by implementing sound financial management practices. The role includes overseeing monthly financial reporting for all departments, conducting financial performance analysis, and managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, assets, banking, and other cash functions. Additionally, the Director of Finance will offer guidance on finance-related policies, support the development of departmental work plans, and provide financial information and assistance to department managers in managing their budgets within the approved annual budget.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide financial oversight and analysis of the organization’s financial position.
- Develop strategies for future growth, capital management, and resource optimization.
- Create and manage short- and long-term cash flow forecasts and financial performance analysis.
- Work closely with the CEO to implement changes, monitor efficiencies, and provide financial updates.
- Develop and oversee comprehensive departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Evaluate financial risks, prepare forecasts, and recommend strategic financial solutions.
- Implement and maintain controls to ensure consistency, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely consolidation across all departments.
- Supervise and manage accounting staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Develop efficient accounting systems, processes, and reporting structures.
- Supervise preparation for annual audits and support audit-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial reporting requirements.
- Manage accounts receivable, payable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management functions.
- Examine supplier costs, overhead, and optimize cash flow management.
- Support departmental budget management, expense controls, and ensure timely financial updates.
- Provide career development and mentorship to accounting staff, fostering growth and skills development.
- Recommend and update financial policies and procedures as needed.
- Maintain relationships with banks, secure credit lines, and optimize investments.
- Provide financial reports, statements, and business activity forecasts to the CEO.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA, MBA, CGA, CMA, CAFM, or CA professional Designation.
- 10+ years’ experience in executive level financial management and accounting.
- Strong knowledge of business development, investments and accounting systems.
- Adaptable to change and continuously seek out improvements to existing processes.
- Proven ability to integrate strategic business objectives into overall cash management activities.
- Experience working within a multi-entity environment.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and coaching teams.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals, management and stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to convey complex issues to senior management.
- Possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers License and satisfactory Criminal Record check.
