Summary:
We are seeking a Finance and Accounting Analyst to join our Finance team in our Toronto office.
The Analyst is required to actively participate in various aspects of the monthly/quarterly close process and other ad-hoc projects as assigned. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal communications skills, understanding of IFRS and GAAP accounting standards, Company’s ledger system (e.g. SAP), be able to work in team environment, support the maintenance and future configuration of these environments and the affected stakeholders. The Analyst will report to AVP - Finance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the Financial Accounting process for Sompo Canada entities, including data reconciliations
- Conduct variance analysis
- Compiling management reports along with analytics
- Participate in financial operations
- Assist management with AD Hoc Projects, including accounting policies and procedures documentation
- Prepare supporting schedules and Head Office supplemental reporting
- Assist with internal and external audit requests
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Pursuing CPA qualification, with 1-3 years of progressive experience in a corporate environment
- Understand Accounting Standards, IFRS and GAAP
- Self-motivated
- Exhibits the ability to build strong relationships with management and team members at various levels, both locally and remotely (US, Bermuda & UK)
- Detail oriented and logical/disciplined approach to problem solving
- Can manage and delegate work effectively, is flexible and adaptable to a rapidly changing environment
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills, should be able to effectively collaborate and interact with others
- Strong analytical, organization/planning and project management skills
- Must be willing to take the initiative to improve processes and resolve problems, including managing multiple initiatives simultaneously, prioritize functions and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate strong analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, prioritization, and time management skills
- Insurance/Reinsurance knowledge preferred
- Strong knowledge of SAP General Ledger Accounting System is preferred
- System Administration experience with record-to-report software over reconciliations, transaction matching, journal entries and close tasks (i.e. BlackLine or equivalent) is a plus
- Advanced proficiency Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access, PowerPoint), including the ability to parse, analyse and interpret large data outputs
