The Michener Institute of Education at UHN (Michener) is Canada’s only post-secondary institution devoted exclusively to the education of healthcare professionals, offering full-time, part-time and continuing education programs. For more than 65 years, Michener has prepared generations of professionals for applied health careers and responded to emerging health system priorities.
Position Overview
Currently, Michener is seeking a Director to lead the organization’s finance function. With dual reporting into both UHN and Michener’s leadership, the Director will oversee a sizable team responsible for the organization’s financial reporting, performance reporting, FP&A, and full-cycle accounting. Moreover, being a strategic business partner, helping shape Michener's financial trajectory. This is an attractive opportunity for a CPA driven by the intersection of financial leadership and organizational strategy. Role Responsibilities
- Lead a sizable team focused on managing the organization’s financial and performance reporting and cyclical accounting activities.
- Provide financial oversight, strategic and tactical business support for Michener.
- Act as a liaison with UHN and represent Michener within the wider UHN organization.
- Work with the Executive leadership to develop meaningful, accurate, and timely financial reports, analyses and presentations to fulfill senior management, Board and Board Committee requirements and drive decision making.
- Ensure appropriate financial policies, procedures& metrics are in place to deliver exemplary service and monitor performance.
- Lead the annual budget and ongoing forecast process for Michener, providing management reporting and KPIs as well as overseeing periodic variance analysis and operating reviews to track overall business success.
- Establish departmental goals and objectives, developing short and long term plans, while monitoring and evaluating the progress in achieving these plans.
- Oversee the administration, reporting, and compliance with the operating grants and endowed funds.
- Drive continuous process improvements to ensure efficient use and stewardship of resources and effective use of technology.
Desired Qualifications
- A university degree in business (or related discipline) from a recognized and accredited educational institution.
- Recognized professional accounting designation; CPA, CA or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven years of progressively senior financial management experience in a complex organization.
- Strong business acumen with solid experience in business management, operations, financial planning, performance measurement and budgeting functions.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex financial issues to a broad and diverse audience.
- Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment.
- Capacity to build partnerships, work collaboratively and effectively communicate to diverse groups both within and external to Michener and UHN.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to influence business partners.
- A post-graduate degree in business management or healthcare administration is an asset.
