We have an outstanding opportunity for an Accounting Manager to join our Accounting Team under the Property Management division. The successful candidate requires Real Estate management and supervisory experience who is familiar with reporting on Real Estate assets. The individual will be a self-starter and genuinely curious; that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment; can multi-task, efficiently prioritize work under timelines with a high sense of ownership in their work; and has a strong foundation in accounting and reporting.
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the following:
- Support the Controller in the development, review and updating of Accounting Process Manual inclusive of all policies and procedures.
- Manage and supervise a team of Property Accountants to ensure the following tasks are executed in a timely and high quality manner:
- Prepare and report monthly HST.
- Reconciliation of bank statements, mortgages, loans and monthly journal entries.
- Prepare and process Tenant CAM/TAX recovery reconciliations annually.
- Investigate and validate recovery rules in tenant leases.
- Verify code and ensure processing of accounts payable, once authorized by property manager and review payments for accuracy before submitting to Management for signatures.
- Ensure correct chargeback such as utilities to tenants.
- Prepare intercompany billings for commission, Management Fees and Maintenance Wages.
- Prepare and submit annual MPAC financial reporting requirement, vacancy rebates.
- Prepare and submit quarterly survey of financial statements required by Statistic Canada.
- Prepare year-end audit working papers and liaison with auditors.
- Prepare various accounting reports and analysis as requested.
- Prepare audited and unaudited financial statements for internal and external users.
- Prepare and review annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Review the quality and timing of all deliverables produced by the Accounting team. Coach team members on performance to ensure consistent achievement or time and quality expectations.
- Participate with the Controller in the annual staff review cycle including setting of annual goals and objectives.
- Day to day liaising with Controller to update on progress of Staff activities through the schedule Accounting activities.
- Act as administrator role in the Property Management Software for Accounting Department.
- Support the Controller to assemble Monthly and Annual reports to Senior Management.
- Support the Controller to assemble annual budget presentation for approval by Senior Management.
- Support the Controller in setting annual strategies and business plans for the department.
- Support Property Management personnel in financial accounting matters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications:
- CPA designated, with 5+ years of relevant management/supervisory experience in the industry.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Proficient in Yardi Voyager 7S financial reporting.
