Job Profile:
Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager’s main purpose is in the assistance of planning, controlling, reporting and measuring the financial information and assets of both 793 Union and OEBAC. The Accounting Manager produces and analyzes financial information critical to business interests as well as creates and presents reports to management regarding accounting data to enable knowledge based decision making and forecasting.
Job Responsibilities / Duties:
1. To provide a full range of accounting functions under the direction of the CFO, including but not limited to:
- Reconciliation of all investment statements;
- Analytical review of the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger;
- Quarterly variance analysis from budget;
- Preparation of quarterly financial statements and variance analysis;
- Assistance with the preparation of annual Budgets;
- At the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, coordinate and oversee the preparation of year-end audit working papers;
- Work closely with the external audit team to ensure all necessary information is available to them;
- Preparation of financial reports for the Executive Board and Trustees;
- Oversee the bank reconciliation, accounts receivable, cash receipts and accounts payable functions;
- Payroll reconciliation and related functions;
- CRA withholding tax reconciliations;
- Providing assistance to team members in the review of operations and any ad-hoc reports and requests;
- Monitoring cash requirements daily and producing monthly cash forecasts;
- Oversee the accounting team members, including review and approval of work assignments and training requirements of the team including the completion of regular performance reviews;
- Oversee the development of working papers and excel spreadsheets to facilitate the preparation of departmental budgets;
- Maintain financial security by researching and reconciling discrepancies, auditing and verifying documents, following internal controls, and completing data backups;
- Monitor reserve accounts and investments, and review bank statements;
- Stay current with all regulations, practices, tax laws, reporting requirements, and industry trends.
2. To perform other related duties as required by the Business Manager, CFO, OEBAC Executive Director, and/or Human Resources.
Job Requirements:
- A formal post-secondary education such as a University Degree or Diploma in Accounting is required;
- Professional designation such as Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) is required;
- 5-10 years of experience working as an accountant;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Not-for-Profit related industry;
- Knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws and reporting requirements;
- Understanding of and experience in equity and bond markets;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of investments;
- Experience conducting financial statement analysis, including ratio analysis;
- Strong experience managing staff;
- Effective communication skills;
- Ability to adapt to and learn new software;
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning;
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines;
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills;
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work;
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite (including Power Point, Word, and Excel);
- Data analysis skills required.
Work Conditions:
- Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals;
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations;
- This is an in-person role with no option to work remotely.
