Senior Payroll Specialist
Work Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

Compensation: $85,000 to $95,000/Annually + Vacation + Benefits + RRSP
Our client, a leading consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role is responsible for maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of the payroll management system. Operating independently, the position demands a strong focus on compliance, reporting, and proficiency with Dayforce software. The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, robust analytical skills, thorough knowledge of payroll processes and regulations, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process semi-monthly and off-cycle payroll for all Canadian entities using Dayforce, including handling new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonus payments, and shareholder loans.
- Compile and process garnishments, vacation time, health benefits, RRSP contributions, and other deductions.
- Audit remittances for CPP, EI, personal tax, employer health tax, and WCB.
- Prepare remittances for BC employer health tax, WSIB for Ontario, and workers' compensation for other provinces.
- Prepare monthly payroll journal entries and provide RRSP reports to accounting.
- Manage group insurance benefits, including enrollments, terminations, and invoice reconciliation.
- Maintain and update taxable benefits, including vehicle benefits.
- Create and maintain employee records in compliance with privacy legislation.
- Handle year-end procedures, including T4 issuance and reconciliations.
- Complete annual reconciliations for Workers' Compensation, Employer Health Tax, and Health and Education Tax.
- Prepare reports for management and ensure payroll system accuracy.
- Collaborate with HR to resolve discrepancies and improve processes.
- Respond to Statistics Canada payroll/job vacancy surveys and assist with audits.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
- Over 5 years of payroll experience, with a focus on compliance and reporting
- Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certification or in progress
- Proficient in Ceridian Dayforce
- Intermediate Excel skills for detailed payroll reports and data manipulation
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The indicated pay range for this position is a good-faith estimate based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Factors that may be used when making an offer may include a candidate’s skills, experience and geographic location, the expected quality and quantity of work. Most candidates will start at the bottom half of the pay range, with the upper end reserved for candidates with extensive experience and skills and who live in geographic markets commanding a higher starting pay. An employee’s pay history will not be a contributing factor where prohibited by local law.
