The Company and the position
Cedar Springs Bottled Water, a private company with diverse operations, based in Vaughan, Ontario, seeks an experienced Controller to join its team. It is looking for a dynamic individual who can manage its accounting / finance, financial reporting, payroll functions and contribute to its strategic growth.
Controller’s responsibilities will include the following among other things:
Oversee all financial operations including accounting and monthly reporting for all companies / divisions within the group
Prepare timely and accurate monthly / yearly financial statements as well as other reports and statements that form part of the monthly / yearly reporting package
Provide comments on variances against prior year month for the monthly income statements and the monthly department statements
Prepare draft financial statement for the fiscal year to be sent to the external accountants for compilation / review / audit as the case may be
Review / prepare schedules that accompany the draft financial statement that are sent to the external accountants for the fiscal year
Analyze data and provide information to the management for making informed decisions
Prepare on a daily basis simple cash flow reports (cash collections, cash deposits and all payments)
Keep a close eye on expenses, purchase of inventory, capital expenditure and advise the management, from time to time, on revision of prices, if needed, to align with increases in costs of inputs or finished goods purchased for resale
Ensure that bi-weekly payroll is transmitted to ADP on time and with correct salary and employee information.
Ensure that all internal controls are working and where needed implement additional internal controls to safeguard company’s assets
Responsible for dealing with all commodity tax and corporate income tax matters
Education, experience and qualifications
CPA or any equivalent qualification
Minimum five years’ experience in accounting / finance in a medium sized company
Experience with timely closing of accounting periods and preparing monthly / yearly financial statements with all supporting schedules
Experience dealing with auditors in connection with audit / review of the Company’s financials
Experience with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises)
Knowledge of payroll systems desirable
Knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards desirable
Experience with Navision (ERP system) will be an advantage
Exceptional communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
